Case former

Case formers, usually turned from wood and equipped with a handle, are used to manufacture shell or shellette cases by rolling up strips of paper, chipboard etc. They are inevitable tools in the manufacture of traditional cylinder shells; smaller versions are used to roll pupadelles and shell inserts. The case former not only serves as a former but also - to a certain degree - as a working surface, e.g. when closing up the shell. Its diameter matches the intended I.D. of the product, e.g. 3,5" for a finished 4" shell. Fulcanelli gives some standard sizes for the most popular shell calibers. Formers are often equipped with a central hole in order to allow shells to be "filled upside down".
